Long long time ago I followed a painting course at the Academy of Genk, Belgium (went there 29 years, from my fifth birtday!).
When painting on a 3D canvas I could paint the bottom nor top side completely because of the holders of the easel itself.
So I put it on a table to continue but it sticked right to the table, causing even more frustration.
Thinking over this issue for a long time I asked myself why nobody ever came up with gripping the canvas on the back side, on the wooden frame itself.
Four years later Canveo was born. It took this long because various designs were changed, improved, tested.
Also finding a manufacturer thats works and thinks with you is not easy. Thanks to Dirk from MTF in Kiewit I was able to build a decent prototype which could be shown to potential customers.
This was a great schooling for further designs.
I started by having it tested at my own academy in Genk. The first remark was that lots of people actually paint on paper, pinned to a wooden plate. I redesigned the holder so that both wooden plates and canvas could be held by the easel.
This resulted in the final easel: a metal, lacquered easel which can hold multiple canvasses with multiple holders. Which can be turned over 180° and adjusted in height.
I call it dancing with the Canveo, as you can turn it around the way you want it.
